Case Study - East Taupo Bypass

This project shows the proposed East Taupo Bypass highway. This highway is proposed to run around the north and east of Taupo.
The K2Vi model was commissioned by Opus International Consultants who used it for demonstrating the project to the public.

Highway Bypass View

This type of model is a very good way to demonstrate proosed engineering works to the public. It dramatically increases understanding of the project because people generally have difficulty interpreting engineering drawings.
Because these models are interactive, people can view the proposed development from any angle. Showing every angle, increases the trust that people feel - they feel that you're not keeping anything hidden.

View of Mountains

When the K2Vi model was constructed, it showed that there will be an extraordinarily dramatic view of the mountains (Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, and Ruapehu) from this section of road. No other CAD software provides a scene large enough to show this view.
This unexpected insight suggested a requirement for design changes to provide for motorists to be able to pull off into a viewing area.
