01 March 2006
- Viewpoint functionality enhancements
- It is now possible to visualise all viewpoints in the K2Vi scene as
3D models showing position and orientation of the viewpoint in 3D. This
is extremely usefull when creating a flightpath from these viewpoints.
- viewpoint object annotation: when the mouse goes over the viewpoint
object, the name of the viewpoint is displayed.
- 'jump to selected viewpoint (object)' with the 'fly to' tool or
select the viewpoint object and hit 'v'
- Follow animated objects
- Position on terrain/move on terrain improvements
- Measure markers --> show only distance from
last marker
- Always show the viewpoint position/orientation of
the 3D window

01 October 2005
- 3D CAD object Level of detail (LOD)
Support for Level Of Details (LOD) of 3D CAD models.
- CAD instancing
K2Vi now supports CAD model instancing: each unique 3D CAD model is
loaded from disk only once but can be displayed multiple times. CAD
instancing results in faster project loading times especially projects
with 1000's of similar objects like trees. CAD instancing is done
automatically and no user input is required.
- CAD model randomiser
Typically when you add a large number of CAD objects (for example
trees) to the 3D world, they all have the same rotation and scale which
looks not very natural. You can now use the CAD model randomiser to
create variety in rotation and scale of the selected CAD objects.
- CAD footprints
Create footprints from CAD models to modify the terrain.
- Smooth rendering of CAD objects
CAD objects can be rendered smooth in K2Vi if they have vertex normals.
- MapInfo vector file support
K2Vi now can read MapInfo .tab and .mif files.
- Billboards
Billboards are rotating objects that always face the viewer. They can
be used for trees along a road you drive on or actual billboards with
information.
- Pitch lock in K2Vi lite
- Variable 3D text size
Enter the line FONT3D_SCALE 'size' in the k2Vi.cfg.
- User defined font size for text in the navigation
panel
Open the font.wtk file and enter for example Arial 20.
- Full screen startup
If you save the project in full screen mode, then next you open it will
startup in full screen mode.
- Information on missing objects/textures now saved
in log file
- Option to keep aspect ratio (XY) when scaling 3D
CAD models in Z
- UTM to MGRS coordinate conversion
- Create so-called world files for all terrain
textures in the 3D scene
- New keyboard functionality for scaling and
translating objects
- 'Export to K2Vi' ArcMap tool improved
The K2Vi ArcMap tool can now create K2Vi projects from:
- rasters/images in a geodatabase (personal and SDE),
- rasters/images in a raster catalog in a geodatabase (personal and SDE)
- file based rasters/images
- shapefiles
You can also now set the XY and Z - filtering in the settings dialog of
the ArcMap tool.
28 June 2005
K2Vi Professional version 2.6.1 (build 202)

K2Vi Professional version 2.6.1 (build 140)
- 'Export to K2VI' ArcMap tool
K2Vi
Professional comes now with an ArcMap tool (k2vi_kvp.dll) which allows
you to
create K2Vi projects from ArcMap with the push of a button
The tool allows you create a
k2vi project file (*.kvp) plus associated
project directory and subdirectories from the data layers in the active
map in
ArcMap. The tool will clip every layer to the active view extent and
copy the
layer to the correct k2vi project directory. The following data layers
are
supported at the moment:
- Improved visibility analysis
- octree implementation -> improvement
of performance on large datasets
- improved accuracy
- target height: set height of target on the terrain. K2Vi will take
into account the height of a possible target in the visibility analysis.
- export: save the result to shapefile or geotiff
- New sky boxes
The
skybox is a geometry now. The user can use their own geometry and
textures or
select from 5 existing skyboxes:
: autumn
: sunset
: night
: bright day
: bluedream
- skybox can be transparent to blend with background color

Sky:
bright day

Sky:
sunset
-
Terrain Modification.
You can now use 3D shapefiles to modify terrains in K2Vi. The software
uses the Z values of the 3D shapes to overwrite the grid cell values
where the 3D shapes overlap the grid. K2Vi doesn't actually modify the
core grid cell values. The 3D shapefiles are linked to the grid tiles
via the K2Vi project file and on loading of the project, it will modify
the terrain.
- Row Filtering for terrain loading
Row filtering will decrease the number of points for triangulation and
will result in faster loading and higher frame rates (display speed)
but less accurate terrains. No Row filtering will result in longer
loading times, lower frame rates but more accurate terrains.
- Texture Styles
This version supports so-called textures styles: The styles
functionality allows you to create a number of visualisation styles for
terrain tiles. This can be used for example to switch between summer
and winter scenery but also to display different kinds thematic
information.
- Annotation
The Annotation functionality allows you to retrieve attribute
information from shapefiles without actually 'seeing' the shapefile in
the scene. For example if you have a shapefile with waterways, you can
load this shapefile via the 'Annotation' Dialog box. When the mouse
goes over the area where there is a polygon in the shapefile, K2VI will
display the waterways attribute information in the bottom left corner.
- Attributes Information for kvi files
In Release 2.5 you can now add attribute information to kvi files.
- Import and Export of VRML97 files.
K2Vi 2.5 fully supports import of VRML97 objects and allows you to
export any selection of 3D objects from the K2Vi scene to the VRML97
format.
- Export of ESRI 3D shapefiles
This release allows you to create 3D shapefiles in the scene, add 3D
CAD objects and export the created object with CAD links to an ESRI 3D
shapefile.
